The Love I’m Still Learning to Understand

We love because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

There are some things in life that words can never fully explain. Love is one of them.

We use the word love so often that sometimes we forget how powerful it really is.

We say we love our family. We love our friends. We love our church. We love our dreams. We love what makes us happy.

But then life happens. People disappoint us. People walk away. Promises get broken.

Hearts get hurt. And sometimes, we begin to wonder what love really is.

I know that for many of us, love has not always looked the way we hoped it would. Maybe you grew up without the love you needed. Maybe someone you trusted hurt you. Maybe you've given your heart to people who didn't value it. Maybe you've made mistakes that make you wonder if you could ever be loved by God. And maybe, somewhere along the way, you started believing that love had to be earned.

But the Bible tells us something completely different.

God's love is not something we have to earn.

It is something we receive.
